Job summary

Lamb Weston is seeking an on-site Fabrication/Welding Technician in Idaho to support the maintenance department. The role focuses on fabrication, welding, and installation of equipment, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

You will fabricate metal structures, repair and modify equipment, and assist with line design changes while maintaining accurate records and supporting production teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Lock-out/Tag-out certification required; training provided if not qualified.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in fabricating metal structures and process piping; assemble equipment from raw materials.
  • Perform basic welding and fabrication duties on mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
  • Repair, overhaul, and move equipment; assist with line designs and modifications.
  • Ensure surfaces are cleaned and prepared for welding; verify alignment and tolerances.
  • Maintain records and logs of work; support maintenance and production teams.

Job Description Summary

This position provides assistance with fabrication, assembling, and installation needs for the maintenance department in order to maintain equipment and create efficiencies.

Job Description
  • Assists in fabricating metal structures and process piping; adjusts and assembles equipment from raw materials.
  • Makes modifications and performs upkeep on existing equipment.
  • Assists with line designs and comments on proposed changes and equipment.
  • Performs a full range of basic welding and fabricating duties, fabricates and repairs industrial equipment and performs other technical maintenance duties. Works with various types of materials - mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel.
  • Operates and maintains metal fabrication equipment and tools.
  • Reviews plant equipment needs with maintenance crew and management.
  • Repairs, overhauls, fabricates, disassembles, re‑assembles, and moves equipment in and out of the plant.
  • Assists maintenance and production personnel in problem‑solving activities.
  • Aligns and fits parts according to specifications, locates and marks workpiece bending and cutting lines allowing for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage and other part specifications.
  • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there are no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Clamps, holds, tack‑welds, heat‑bends, grinds, or bolts parts to obtain required configurations to weld parts in flat and vertical positions.
  • Completes assignments in a timely manner, keeping legible, detailed, and accurate records and logs of work.
  • Minimizes downtime by utilizing skills to create operational efficiencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Lock-out/Tag-out certification is required. If you are not qualified, you will be trained and must meet certification requirements
Skills and Experience
  • 1-year related experience in fabricationand welding required.
  • Effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing. Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English, both written and oral. (Requirement may vary by location).
  • Must be able to be qualified within time framesestablished by facility.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, required.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer operation knowledge, data entry skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Applicability of job levels varies by location and is determined by the plant skills matrix.
Physical Environment/Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies.
  • Occasionally works in narrow passageways, confined spaces, and at protected heights.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
