Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Extrusion Supervisor oversees all operations and personnel within the extrusion department during the assigned shift. This role is responsible for maintaining efficient and safe production processes while upholding Darnel’s standards for quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. The Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in training, team development, troubleshooting, and achieving daily production goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead, Supervise & Develop Team:
- Directly supervise extrusion operators and support staff.
- Provide structure, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure a high-functioning team.
- Delegate work based on operational priorities, skill levels, and production schedules.
- Support onboarding and skills development of new and existing employees.
Drive Results & Accountability:
- Monitor daily performance and ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety KPIs are met or exceeded.
- Promote accountability by maintaining shift discipline and ensuring adherence to SOPs and GMPs.
- Communicate and document shift production data accurately, including downtime, scrap, and efficiencies.
Operational Oversight:
- Lead extrusion equipment start-up, set-up, and in-process checks.
- Monitor process parameters and proactively respond to operational issues or trends to prevent downtime.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to address equipment issues promptly and ensure timely repairs.
Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Champion a culture of safety through regular audits, incident investigations, and training.
- Ensure compliance with company, OSHA, and food safety standards.
- Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards throughout the extrusion area.
Shift Communication & Reporting:
- Conduct effective shift handovers and team meetings.
- Use escalation protocols to communicate production or personnel concerns to management.
- Maintain accurate and timely submission of safety logs, quality paperwork, and production reports.
Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in and lead improvement initiatives aimed at increasing throughput, reducing scrap, or enhancing product quality.
- Perform Gemba walks, document findings, and implement corrective actions as needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned by department or plant leadership.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and bending over a 12-hour shift.
- Use of hand tools and utility knives as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Environment includes hot temperatures in summer and cold in winter.
- PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, ear protection, and hairnets is mandatory.
- Additional protective gear required when working directly with extrusion machinery.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary technical training preferred.
- Minimum 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of thermoforming and extrusion machinery preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage shift-level operations.
- Basic computer skills including MS Office; experience with production software (PS, WMS) a plus.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and make operational decisions.
- Willingness to work night shifts (8PM–8AM) on a 12-hour rotating 2-2-3 schedule.
