Job summary

Silgan Containers is seeking a Process Engineer – Extrusion Blow Molding to support multiple Silgan Plastic Operation sites with technical knowledge for launching new products and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operations.

The role involves testing and qualifying blow molding equipment, collaborating with development teams, and training operations staff. Extensive travel to various facilities is required to support startup and optimization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Assist operations, engineering, and commercial teams by applying plastics processing knowledge to evaluate new business opportunities on Silgan blow technology machines.
• Perform blow machine FATs to approve safe, quality, in-spec equipment and determine go/no go for shipments to plants.
• Support unit or full set process development for molds and annual evaluation of mold vendors for competitive bid processes.
• Read and understand product drawings and specs to identify features critical to part function and performance.
• Train Silgan Plastics operations and engineering teams on shuttle machine safety, operation, setup, and troubleshooting; address skill gaps.
• Travel to facilities to assist with setup, support process development and production startup.
• Collaborate with EBM equipment vendors to ensure training materials and manuals are clear; train at vendor sites to build internal expertise.
• Assist with machine changeovers and troubleshooting to support manufacturing operations.
• Use test equipment for bottle measurements (scales, calipers, optical comparator, magna-mike, top load tester).
• Review bill of materials during new product setup; verify materials used are correct.
• Support Product Development Engineers and plant on new product startups; target process parameters; evaluate parts for spec compliance; use data to optimize processes.
