Job summary

Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW) in Manteno, IL is hiring an Extruder Operator for the overnight shift. You will operate plastic extrusion lines and help maintain product quality within target specifications.

The role requires mechanical aptitude, the ability to perform line changeovers and line cleaning, and strict adherence to safety and quality rules. A high school diploma or GED is required, with prior extrusion experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Quality: Ensure proper equipment setup and perform quality checks.
• Changeovers and line cleaning: Perform line changeovers and cleaning; assist maintenance as needed.
• Packaging: Properly box product and ensure correct labeling and pallet configuration.
• Safety/housekeeping: Follow safety rules, HACCP and SQF regulations; keep line area clean.
• Paperwork: Complete all required paperwork with accuracy and data entry.
• Teamwork: Assist others with spool handling, changeovers and line cleaning.

Zip-Pak, Manteno, we need extruder operators to operate plastic extrusion lines. 12-hour shift (7pm-7am), 2-2-3 day schedule with alternating weekends off. Clean, safe, temperature-controlled work environment.

The extruder operator is responsible for running and maintaining a quality product. The operator must be proficient in making necessary adjustments and judgements to consistently produce product within quality specifications at or above productivity targets: line speed, uptime, and yield.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality:

• Utilizes judgment in acceptable variance from specifications
• Ensures proper equipment set-up
• Properly performs and records quality checks
• Communicates troubleshooting efforts with team members, supervision, maintenance
• Assures proper quantities are run (no significant over/under runs)

Changeovers and line cleaning:

• Performs line changeovers
• Performs line cleaning
• Performs some preventative maintenance as required

Packaging:

• Properly boxes product
• Ensures product is identified correctly and legibly
• Utilizes correct pallet configuration
• Assures pallet is secure and identified correctly and legibly.

Safety/housekeeping:

• Understands and observes all safety precautions, rules and regulations
• Understands and observes all HACCP and SQF regulations
• Keeps the area around line clean
• Reports all safety hazards to supervisor

Paperwork:

• Completes all required paperwork properly and legibly
• Strong attention to detail, computer skills, accuracy, with data entry

Teamwork:

• Assists other operators with spool handling
• Assists other operators with changeovers
• Assists other operators with line cleaning
• Participates on task forces and committees as requested Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Requirements:

• Extrusion experience desirable
• High School diploma or GED
• Stable work history
• Demonstrates willingness to accept or seek new assignments
• Mechanical aptitude/good troubleshooting skills

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Able to stand for long periods of time
• Able to walk, bend, squat and twist, close vision

Compensation Information:

For Nights - The hourly range for a Extruder Operator 1 is $20.00 to $24.00/hr. The pay rate for a successful candidate will depend on the geographic location,this pay range is for a successful candidate in the Chicagoland area. The specific hiring rate within the posted range will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
