Job summary

ITW Zip-Pak, Atlanta, is seeking an extruder operator to run and maintain plastic extrusion lines on a 12-hour night shift (7pm–7am), 2-2-3 schedule with alternating weekends off. The role focuses on quality, line speed, uptime and yield.

You will set up equipment, perform quality checks, handle changeovers, packaging and paperwork, and work with a team to ensure safe, clean operations in a temperature-controlled environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills desired.
• Stable work history preferred.
• Ability to perform data entry with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains extrusion line to meet quality specs and productivity targets.
• Sets up equipment correctly and records quality checks.
• Performs line changeovers and line cleaning as required.
• Conducts preventative maintenance tasks when needed.
• Packs product correctly and ensures proper labeling and pallet configuration.
• Adheres to HACCP/SQF safety rules and keeps the work area clean.
• Completes required paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Assists teammates with spool handling and line cleaning as needed.

Job Description

The extruder operator is responsible for running and maintaining a quality product. The operator must be proficient in making necessary adjustments and judgements to consistently produce product within quality specifications at or above productivity targets: line speed, uptime, and yield.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality:

• Utilizes judgment in acceptable variance from specifications
• Ensures proper equipment set-up
• Properly performs and records quality checks
• Communicates troubleshooting efforts with team members, supervision, maintenance
• Assures proper quantities are run (no significant over/under runs)

Changeovers and line cleaning:

• Performs line changeovers
• Performs line cleaning
• Performs some preventative maintenance as required

Packaging:

• Properly boxes product
• Ensures product is identified correctly and legibly
• Utilizes correct pallet configuration
• Assures pallet is secure and identified correctly and legibly.

Safety/housekeeping:

• Understands and observes all safety precautions, rules and regulations
• Understands and observes all HACCP and SQF regulations
• Keeps the area around line clean
• Reports all safety hazards to supervisor

Paperwork:

• Completes all required paperwork properly and legibly
• Strong attention to detail, computer skills, accuracy, with data entry

Teamwork:

• Assists other operators with spool handling
• Assists other operators with changeovers
• Assists other operators with line cleaning
• Participates on task forces and committees as requested Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Extrusion experience desirable but not necessary
• High School diploma or GED
• Stable work history
• Mechanical aptitude/good troubleshooting skills

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Able to stand for long periods of time
• Able to walk, bend, squat and twist, close vision

Compensation Information:

For Nights- The hourly range for a Machine Operator 1 is $20.00 to $22.00 plus an additional $1.00 shift premium. The pay rate for a successful candidate will depend on the geographic location, this pay range is for a successful candidate in the Atlanta metro area. The specific hiring rate within the posted range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
