Job summary

PerkinElmer is seeking an Associate Scientist for Manufacturing Quality on the 2nd shift in Richmond, VA. You will perform sample extraction and preparation to support chromatographic and MS analyses across testing programs.

The role emphasizes adherence to ISO 17025, documentation, and collaboration with analytical teams. The position is onsite with a 2nd shift schedule (3pm–11pm) and potential weekend overtime based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
• OR Associate degree with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Capable of working under close to direct supervision in a regulated laboratory environment.
• Adaptable, self-motivated, and able to follow detailed instructions and complete routine tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform extraction, digestion, and preparation for chromatographic and MS analyses.
• Prepare samples for nicotine, TSNAs, VOCs, aromatics, carbonyls, and metals.
• Execute extraction procedures per approved methods and quality requirements.
• Maintain reagents, solvents, and consumables for analytical workflows.
• Maintain sample traceability and chain-of-custody throughout the process.
• Collaborate with analytical scientists to ensure consistent and efficient prep.
• Support method validation, technology transfer, and process improvement initiatives.
• Investigate extraction-related issues and participate in root-cause analyses.
• Maintain laboratory records and documentation in ISO 17025 compliance.
• Maintain training and safety compliance.
