Digital ScholarsExtra Help - Assistant Instructor, iOS App Design CourseThe Digital Scholars Program is an intensive summer pre-college program aimed at increasing diversity in computing and technology fields in Illinois. High school students and incoming freshmen at City Colleges of Chicago and Illinois institutions can enroll in courses such as computer science, data science, electrical and computer engineering, or mobile app development. The program also focuses on college and career readiness skills and connecting students with Chicago's tech community.
The iOS App Design Assistant Instructor role is a 6-week position focused on delivering quality instruction and assessment to enhance student achievement.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Programming, the Assistant Instructor is responsible for supporting curriculum delivery, student engagement, and assessment within the program.
Responsibilities:- Familiarize with the iOS App Design curriculum and follow the pacing plan set by the Lead Instructor.
- Implement engaging teaching strategies, including whole group, small group, and individual activities.
- Use traditional and innovative teaching methods tailored to student needs.
- Prepare students to pitch an MVP for the Everyone Can Code Chicago Showcase.
- Maintain a safe, equitable classroom environment aligned with program goals.
- Assist in assessing student learning weekly.
- Document teaching approaches for program resources.
- Participate in weekly meetings for program development and support.

Required Qualifications:- Experience with Swift and XCode.
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in education or related areas.
Preferred Qualifications:- Swift Associate or Certified User Certifications.
- Experience teaching computer science to high or middle school students.
- Experience working with minoritized student populations.
Position Dates and Location:The program runs from June 23 to August 1, 2025, at 565 W. Adams Street, Chicago. Staff are expected to report in person during scheduled hours, with additional commitments for orientation, showcase, and celebration events.
Funding and Compensation:This is a part-time, hourly position at $30/hour, up to 135 hours. The start date is May 16, 2025. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
