Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and testing of backflow prevention assemblies to ensure compliance with codes.
• Perform certified backflow repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance.
• Inspect fire extinguishers for compliance with codes and standards.
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble extinguishers for optimal performance.
• Inspect and replace parts such as valves, hoses, nozzles, and seals.
• Recharge extinguishers and pressurize to required levels.
• Install and service brackets, signage, and safety equipment.
• Provide on-site training to customers on use and maintenance.
• Respond to service calls and emergencies to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate service records using Service Trade platform.
• Assist with inventory management of parts and stock.
• Coordinate with Service Coordinators to optimize routes and scheduling.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Job Summary: A Fire Extinguisher & Backflow Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and servicing of fire extinguishers and backflow prevention assemblies in accordance with industry standards and regulations. This dual-threat role plays a critical part in safeguarding lives and property by ensuring both portable life safety devices and cross-connection control systems are fully compliant and operational.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and testing of backflow prevention assemblies (e.g., RP, DC, PVB) to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and plumbing codes.
• Perform certified backflow repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance to prevent cross-contamination and ensure proper water system protection.
• Conduct routine inspections of fire extinguishers to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Perform detailed maintenance tasks, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of fire extinguishers to ensure optimal performance.
• Inspect and replace parts/components as needed, such as valves, hoses, nozzles, and seals, to maintain equipment functionality.
• Recharge fire extinguishers with appropriate extinguishing agents and pressurize them to recommended levels, following established procedures.
• Install and service fire extinguisher brackets, signage, and related safety equipment to ensure proper mounting and visibility.
• Provide on-site training to customers on the proper use and maintenance of fire extinguishers and backflow systems, promoting safety awareness and compliance.
• Respond promptly to service calls and emergency requests, troubleshooting issues and resolving them efficiently to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of service activities, including backflow test reports, inspections, repairs, replacements, and customer interactions, using Service Trade platform.
• Assist with inventory management of fire extinguisher, backflow parts, and component stock, ensuring adequate supply levels and proper storage conditions.
• Work closely with Service Coordinator(s) to optimize work orders, routes, and job scheduling, focusing on efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, always adhering to safety guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
