Unitek College Of Nursing seeks an Externship Coordinator to manage all facets of the clinical externship program. You will build and sustain externship sites, place students, ensure compliance, and document progress toward post-externship employment conversions.

Responsibilities include site visits, evaluations, and collaboration with Career Services to maximize job offers. Strong project management and communication skills are essential for successful program completion.

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant license with proven 3 years experience.
• Associate's degree or higher preferred; equivalent work experience in community outreach, workforce development, healthcare partnerships or as a Medical Assistant will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Secure, maintain, and expand a network of externship sites with a focus on employers seeking to hire students post-externship.
• Coordinate timely student placements to begin with the externship module.
• Monitor attendance and completion of externship hours to support timely graduation.
• Conduct site visits, mid-point, and final evaluations of learning environments and student performance.
• Ensure immunizations and required documentation are completed prior to site placement.
• Collaborate with Career Services to align externship opportunities with employment outcomes.
• Maintain records in accordance with programmatic, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
• Educate site supervisors and students on externship policies and procedures.
• Provide exceptional student service through regular communication and troubleshooting concerns.
• Represent the program with community partners; participate in career fairs and outreach events.

Job Description

The Medical Assisting Externship Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting student transitions from classroom instruction to hands-on training at externship sites, with a focus on employment outcomes. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the externship experience, from site development and student placement to compliance, documentation, and post-externship employment conversions. W While prior experience as a Medical Assistant is not required, successful candidates will demonstrate strong project management, relationship-building, and follow-through skills, preferably with experience in healthcare, workforce development, or community outreach. A key performance benchmark is converting at least 50% of externship placements into job offers, with a goal of 70%.

• Secure, maintain, and expand a network of externship sites with a focus on employers seeking to hire students post-externship.
• Coordinate timely student placements to ensure the externship begins concurrently with the start of the externship module.
• Monitor student attendance and completion of externship hours; track progress to ensure timely graduation.
• Conduct site visits, mid-point, and final evaluations to assess the quality of the learning environment and student performance.
• Ensure all required immunizations and documentation are completed prior to site placement.
• Collaborate with Career Services to align externship opportunities with potential employment outcomes.
• Maintain detailed records and documentation in accordance with programmatic, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
• Educate and support site supervisors and students on externship policies, expectations, and procedures.
• Provide exceptional student service through regular communication, troubleshooting concerns, and supporting retention and program completion.
• Represent the program professionally with community partners and employers; participate in career fairs or other outreach events as needed.

Hours are generally, one late shift per week, until 7:00pm - 8:00pm, will be needed to ensure quality support and availability to evening students.

Pay Range: $31-$35/hr (Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, and budget.)

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant license with proven 3 years experience.
• Associate's degree or higher preferred; equivalent work experience in community outreach, workforce development, healthcare partnerships or as a Medical Assistant will be considered.
• 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, proficient in both front- and back-office operations.
• 2 years of experience in project coordination, community engagement, and employer relations, with additional background in sales/marketing; career services experience strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of or experience in the healthcare industry is a plus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel regularly for site visits.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working within a data tracking system, Student Information System or CRM.
• Familiarity with accreditation standards, externship program coordination, or student services preferred.
