Job summary

The Roger Baldwin Foundation of the ACLU, Inc. (ACLU of Illinois) is seeking an extern fellowship for a rising third-year law student or recent graduate to advance civil rights through litigation and policy work in Chicago.

The fellow will develop affirmative litigation, draft amicus briefs, analyze legislation, and conduct outreach with clients and community groups under supervision of the Legal Department.

Qualifications

• J.D. by Spring 2027 required.
• Illinois admission or readiness to waive into Illinois Bar / plan to take July 2027 exam required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support affirmative litigation to advance civil rights and liberties.
• Write amicus briefs for relevant matters.
• Analyze legislation to enhance civil rights and liberties.
• Conduct outreach for clients and meet and collaborate with community members and partner organizations.

Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) by Spring 2027

Admitted to practice in Illinois, willing to waive into Illinois Bar or plan to take the Illinois Bar exam in July 2027
