Job Summary

Flagstar is seeking an External Communications Lead to spearhead proactive and reactive media relations efforts across business lines and locations. Collaborating with the Head of Corporate Communications, you will develop, own, and execute on a 360-degree external communications program designed to build brand awareness, shape perception, promote bank expertise, protect the brand, and help to open the door for business and revenue growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write press releases, talking points/messaging, media pitches, bylined articles, award & accolade submissions, and other applicable external communications, working cross-divisionally to ensure efficient and effective delivery.

  • Responsible for enterprise and business line earned media and thought leadership planning and execution, media outreach, ideation and more, to proactively position the Bank and leadership positively. Help prepare teammates for speaking to media or presenting to a public audience, as needed.

  • Support development of and execution of annual and quarterly external communication/media relations plans and strategies, and projects as assigned, ensuring alignment with overall bank priorities.

  • Critically important will be to develop a set of metrics and refine reporting, to demonstrate the ability of external communications and earned media to deliver results and support enterprise and business line goals.

  • Experience in building best practices in crisis communications, planning and implementation to protect the brand, and support the management of active crises as they arise. Monitor for issues that have potential impact to ensure constant awareness of potential risks.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • Education level required: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) with a focus on one or more of the following: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Writing.

  • Minimum experience required: 7+ Years experience in managing external communications and media relations programs in an agency or in-house setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education level preferred: Master's Degree (or Postgraduate equivalent) with a focus on one or more of the following: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Writing.

  • Financial services/banking experience strongly preferred.

Job Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of AP style required.

  • Financial services and banking expertise.
