Job summary

Rivian is seeking a highly motivated mechanical design & release engineer to shape exterior components for current and future models. You will design, develop, and release fascia, FEM, and trim, applying first‑principles thinking and ensuring DFMs align with vehicle aesthetics and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with studios and cross‑functional teams, gaining exposure to injection molding, molding processes, and 3D geometry, while driving continuous improvement and high customer

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Preferred: 1–2 examples of design internship experience or a similar professional role.
• Skilled in CATIA v5/v6 or similar CAD software.
• Hands‑on experience in the design‑through‑manufacturing process, via academic work or projects.
• Proficient in generating 3D geometry and sectional data.
• Experience or involvement in process improvement initiatives.
• Strong analytical thinking and logical reasoning.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proactive approach to preventing issues and delays.
• Results‑oriented with a drive to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and release exterior components such as fascia assemblies and FEM.
• Explore manufacturing processes like injection, compression, and 2-shot molding.
• Collaborate with studio team to deliver high-quality A-surfaces and DFMs.
• Apply first-principles design to optimize exterior components for the product.
• Communicate with cross-functional groups to manage parts, changes, and processes.
• Create multiple CAD concepts, 2D sections, and initial 3D concepts.
