The Extension EFNEP Program Assistant is an employee of NC Cooperative Extension,NC State University. Under the supervision of the County Extension Director with guided assistance from the District EFNEP Extension Associate, the EFNEP Program Assistant(PA) delivers nutrition and related subject matter to enrolled participants.

For over 50 years, EFNEP has been helping limited resource youth and families with children learn to eat healthier meals and snacks, make better use of food dollars and reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses. In collaboration with many organizations through the “Eat Smart, Move More” initiative, NC EFNEP aims to help reduce the rising tide of obesity by teaching eligible youth and families practical skills resulting in changed behaviors to eat smart and move more. Other Work/Responsibilities
The Extension EFNEP Program Assistant (PA) is an employee of NC Cooperative Extension, NC State University. Under the supervision of the County Extension Director ( CED ) with guided assistance from the Regional Nutrition Extension Associate ( RNEA ), the EFNEP PA delivers nutrition and related subject matter to enrolled participants. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the NCCE .
The individual in this position will recruit and enroll adult and school-aged youth participants into the program, make regular teaching visits to enrollees either in the home or in group settings, teach basic principles of nutrition and food preparation skills, submit required program records as requested, market the program within the assigned area, recruit volunteers from within the community involving them in leadership roles, collaborate with local Cooperative Extension staff and agencies, and assist with securing program resources. The EFNEP PA receives programmatic guidance from the District EFNEP Regional Nutrition Extension Associate ( RNEA ) with overall supervision provided by the County Extension Director ( CED ). The EFNEP PA and the RNEA work with the Family and Consumer Science Agent, 4-H Agent and/or CED to meet the needs of the county.
Under the programmatic guidance of the RNEA , the EFNEP PA conducts nutrition education to limited resource adults and youth in group settings. While performing this role the EFNEP PA:

The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension ( NCCE ) is a high-school diploma or equivalent.
Department Required Skills
Knowledge of computer applications is required including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Good interpersonal communication skills and teamwork ability is required.
The ability to work on issues and maintain confidentiality is essential.
Must be highly motivated and innovative. Must be a good team member and support and develop a positive work environment.
The EFNEP Program Assistant must have the ability to plan, organize, and work well with the public.
Applicant should be able to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form, as well as the ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with youth and adults, the general community, and staff.
Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and set priorities.
Possess strong work ethic with skills in communications, networking, and public relations.
Excellent time and resource management skills.
Ability to plan, organize effectively.
Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with other and maintaining them over time.
Communicating with people outside of the organization, representing the organization to the clientele, the public, government, and other external sources.
Travel connected with the official duties may be required. Required to have a personal mobility/transportation and obtain/maintain valid driver’s license and appropriate liability insurance. Must have willingness to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities (some evenings and weekends). Travel will be reimbursed according to state guidelines.
The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds frequently. The job also requires sustained periods of standing and sitting and occasional periods of kneeling, stooping, and reaching. The job occasionally requires exposure to extreme heat and humidity and exposure to the sun.
The person must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. The job requires appropriate visual acuity with or without correction and dexterity to perform the normal duties of the job.
