Job summary

NC State Extension Forestry seeks a County Extension Director to lead an integrated Extension program across agriculture, horticulture, health, youth, and community development in the county.

You will supervise a small staff (about six), align activities with county priorities, develop, market, and evaluate programs, and secure resources. You will build strong community and university partnerships and oversee advisory councils.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Extension, educational programming, administration, organizational leadership, or public administration.
• At least three years of service with Cooperative Extension or similar organization.
• Alternative: a Bachelor’s degree with ten years of service in Cooperative Extension or similar organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership for a comprehensive Extension program serving diverse populations.
• Lead and coordinate the County Extension staff (about six) and align activities with county priorities.
• Develop, market, evaluate Extension programs, prepare budgets, and secure resources.
• Facilitate staff development, training, and performance evaluations; manage the affirmative action plan.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with county agencies, schools, and NC State/NC A&T.
• Preserve an active Extension Advisory Council to advise and advocate.
• Communicate public policy issues to county leaders and the public; travel within and outside district as needed.
