Job summary

NC State Extension is seeking an Extension Agent – Consumer Horticulture for Columbus County to develop and deliver non-formal educational programs in consumer horticulture, pest management, landscape and turf, and urban forestry for local residents.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in an agricultural field (Master’s or Doctorate preferred) with strong public speaking and teaching skills; travel within the county and occasional external travel are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with GPA requirements or completion of half of Master’s coursework with GPA criteria, in an agricultural or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred; relevant agricultural field required.
• Strong public speaking, written and verbal communication, and teaching skills for in-person and virtual programs.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and evaluate non-formal educational programs in consumer horticulture.
• Provide informational assistance on pest management, landscape, turf, and urban forestry.
• Lead Extension Master Gardener Volunteers; coordinate meetings and ongoing volunteer training.
