Job description

Behavioral Health Associates (BHA) is an educational organization. We offer an academic learning environment integrated with behavior support services for students diagnosed with emotional/behavioral disorders to empower the students in overcoming challenges and creating new stories in their lives.

We currently have openings for part-time Autistic Educational Support Staff for our Extended School Year (ESY) Program.

ESY Schedule:

Mondays-Thursdays

June 30th through August 7th

Approximate Hours: 7:45am-3:00pm

POSITION GOAL

Under the direction of the program director, assist certified teacher in reinforcing instruction to individuals or small groups of students and is responsible for behavior-analytic interventions to reduce problem solving behavior, remediation of skill deficits, as well as monitoring and reporting student progress. This position will also perform a variety of clerical duties in support of the academic program and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support and maintain classroom policies.
  2. Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  3. Assist in the administering and scoring a variety of tests according to student performance and behavior.
  4. Perform routine clerical duties; operate classroom and office equipment including computers, copy machines, and other equipment.
  5. Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
  6. Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  7. Use contingencies of reinforcement (e.g., conditioned/unconditioned reinforcement, continuous/intermittent schedules) as directed by the teacher/mental health staff in the room.
  8. Direct group activities of students assigned; assist in monitoring students as directed.
  9. Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  10. Assist students as they develop and maintain skills to improve their daily-living and social skills.
  11. Notice and communicate instances that might affect the client's behavior (e.g., illness, relocation).
  12. Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  13. Assist in academic and behavioral charting, establishing classroom rules, and enforcing the TALID System.
  14. Implement the behavior plan and document observable and measurable behavioral goal data.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Paraeducator experience from a previous school or agency is preferred.
  3. Experience in working with children/students with ASD is beneficial, but not required.
  4. Utilizes effective written and oral expression.
  5. Basic computer literacy.
