Job description

Overview

EdVenture is seeking an energetic Extended Learning Specialist to lead the implementation and delivery of engaging learning experiences offsite at community locations. During designated weeks, this role is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of EdVenture’s day camps. The ideal candidate is a problem solver, has a willingness to learn and grow, is adaptable, and believes in the importance of assisting a child’s learning through hands-on experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Serving as the lead facilitator for the Museum’s community and educational outreach programs.
  • Building and strengthening sustainable relationships with schools and community partners.
  • Developing the Museum’s Apprentice Program (MAP) that fosters youth as they learn the skills necessary to successfully progress into adulthood.
  • Managing the Museum’s day camps, ensuring all records are maintained, program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Providing direct supervision of camp counselors and MAP volunteers, overseeing scheduling, evaluations, and training.
  • Leading weekly modeling sessions in visitor engagement and inquiry-based learning techniques.
  • Planning, organizing, and executing educational pop-up events. Working closely with the Experiences & Education team, MAP volunteers, and community partners to ensure successful events.
  • Working closely with the Director of Experiences & Education to develop public programs that enhance the visitor experience.
  • Assessing outreach programs and their effectiveness through regular surveys and evaluations. Refining the programs when needed.
  • Participating in special activities and other projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A positive enthusiastic representative of EdVenture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development or related field of study.
  • Five years of progressive experience working in an informal or non-formal learning environment.
  • Strong ability to engage students, parents and teachers in lessons, applying appropriate classroom management techniques as needed.
  • Skillset to continually assess the effectiveness of programming.
  • Deep knowledge of child development and learning strategies for ages 2–10.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, preferred.
