Job Description

Are you a certified educator looking to inspire and empower students? Do you believe in the importance of meeting students where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally? Barre City Elementary and Middle School is seeking a dedicated elementary school teacher to join our Alternative Classroom Team and help students build the skills they need to succeed. This position will begin mid-August.

About the Alternative Classroom Program:

The program provides a safe, nurturing environment for a small group of multi-grade students who benefit from flexible learning structures and social-emotional support. You’ll be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of behavior specialists, clinicians, and other licensed educators, all working together to make a lasting difference.

Your Role:

As an Alternative Classroom Teacher, you will:

• Develop and implement individualized academic plans that meet students’ diverse needs.
• Foster a supportive classroom environment that encourages growth, confidence, and social-emotional regulation.
• Collaborate closely with behavior specialists and social workers to integrate trauma-informed practices and behavioral strategies into your teaching.
• Inspire a love of learning and help students navigate challenges to achieve success.

Qualifications:

• K-6 Certified VT Teacher (or eligible for licensure)
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• A passion for meeting the needs of diverse learners
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team

The District is currently in negotiations for the upcoming contracts. The salary indicated in this posting is for the FY25/26 school year and will be updated as soon as negotiations are concluded.
