Description

Charlotte Latin is seeking a teacher for our Extended Day program in our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classroom, beginning in August 2025. The Extended Day Lead teacher plans and implements interactive and engaging lesson plans for his/her classroom to provide a structured play based, high quality after-school program that is child-centered and developmentally appropriate. The Lead Teacher manages the classroom effectively with compassion, careful supervision, active engagement, attention to detail, organization, problem solving strategies and purposeful play. This is a part-time, 10-month position, Monday-Friday. The Extended Day hours are from 12:30-6 pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interact with children to support learning through play and to help children develop cognitively, emotionally, socially, and physically.
  • Develop monthly lesson plans.
  • Provide Director with monthly supplies list that meets set budget limits
  • Update Extended Day newsletter with classroom information and pictures.
  • Responsible for setup of activities and materials before each day's program. (classroom/playground)
  • Daily classroom cleanup and maintenance after each age group and at the end of each school day. (includes work-room)
  • Lead small group activities that are age appropriate in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences enhancing the social, physical, and academic advancement of children in his/her care.
  • Leading, supervising, and providing structure and help with homework. (1st-5th grade)
  • Provide close supervision to ensure children's safety. (playground, classroom, field trips, bathroom and hallway)
  • Responsible for daily appropriate and professional communication with parents and fellow staff (In person, via email, via phone)
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. (Monthly meetings w/Director)
  • Work during the teacher/professional work days throughout the academic year (typical hours are 7:30-4:45). Days will be set and communicated at the start of the school year.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead teachers will guide and support Assistant Teachers and Substitute Teachers.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with school-age children is preferred.
  • Safety procedures, First Aid and CPR are essential. (Training provided by CLS)

  • Serve as a leader, collaborator and positive team player.
  • Exhibits flexibility during: last minute daily after school changes, and working with colleagues in shared classroom spaces.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize needs of the classroom.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills, efficient and detail oriented.
  • Strong classroom management skills, commitment to safety and civility.
  • Exhibit willingness to have a growth mindset for learning new material and new ways of teaching.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Office, Google Docs and Google Drive.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
  • Frequently talk and hear.
  • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
  • Long or odd hours, as needed.
