Position Description
Town School for Boys, a K-8 independent day school located in San Francisco, is seeking an Extended Day Program Teacher for the 2026-27 school year (August 19, 2026 - June 15, 2027). The teacher will assist in the administration and supervision of the Extended Day Program (EDP) and its students in accordance with school policies and program guidelines. The ideal candidate is flexible, dedicated to youth development, open to feedback, and committed to professional growth. Responsibilities include support with school day transitions, lunch and recess duties, and class coverages.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., with a competitive compensation package. Medical and dental benefits are available.
Program Description
The Extended Day Program (EDP) is a safe, fun, and inclusive after‑school play space. A blend of structured and self‑directed activities allows students to interact with peers across grade levels. Students are encouraged to be creative and innovative during self‑directed play while also having the opportunity to engage in structured play. Structured activities include sporting games, arts and crafts, cooking projects, engineering projects, and science experiments led by EDP teachers. The EDP supports the school day program in fostering a love of learning by exposing students to many areas of study.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Job
Program Implementation
- Daily room set‑up and clean‑up of materials/equipment throughout each afternoon and at the end of each program day
- Manage students’ after‑school schedules in connection with LEAP programming
- Develop program curriculum and activities that include indoor/outdoor games, arts and crafts, and science to be led with groups of students
- Maintain classroom bulletin boards/walls and display student artwork/projects
- Bring innovative ideas for instruction and care, and collaborate with the Director and EDP Team to plan and implement
- Perform administrative and record‑keeping duties on various app‑based platforms and software to track and record information
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Google Suite preferred
Student Supervision and Engagement
- Provide student supervision at all times during program hours
- Check students in and track attendance
- Actively engage with students during in‑person program hours by assisting with homework, supervising play time, leading enrichment activities, and supporting individual creative projects
- Assist students with conflict resolution when needed
- Provide leadership, positive energy, and good spirit for students, constantly assessing group dynamics and individual needs
- Work directly with the EDP Team to create a safe, warm, fun, and inclusive environment both in the classroom and on the fields
Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate with the EDP Director and EDP Team in support of program growth and development
- Communicate with school faculty and staff to support the holistic development of students
- Support school day duties (recess and lunch) and various grade‑level activities and projects prior to daily program hours, including acting as a guest teacher on occasion
- Attend training and meetings as required to support personal and team development in partnership with school faculty and staff
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to pass a criminal background check and provide a TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire completed by a licensed health care provider
- Strong classroom management skills
- Demonstration of reliable attendance
- Commitment to educational programming for children, specifically students K‑8th grade
- Enjoys working with and has knowledge of basic developmental needs and characteristics of students K‑8th grade
- Flexibility to meet changing work needs and demands
- Ability to work collaboratively on a high‑functioning team
- Openness to feedback and desire to grow professionally
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accuratelyStrong organization skills and attention to detail

- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a similar field strongly preferred; at least 2 years of experience with school‑age children in lieu of degree

Pay Range
$30 – $33 per hour
