The program has an emphasis on developing social-emotional skills and provides a blend of enrichment classes and self-directed activities that allow students to interact with students across grade levels.
About The Role
Epiphany School is seeking an Extended Day Lead Teacher to join our Extended Day staff. The Extended Day Program is a safe, fun, and inclusive space for our Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The program has an emphasis on developing social-emotional skills and provides a blend of enrichment classes and self-directed activities that allow students to interact with students across grade levels.
Enrichment classes include, but are not limited to, athletic activities, arts and crafts, cooking, technology, and music classes led by both Epiphany School Extended Day teachers and external organizations. The after-school enrichment program strives to support the school-day program in fostering a love of learning by exposing students to a variety of disciplines.
This is a part-time, non-exempt, academic year position with expected 20 hours per week and reports to the Extended Day Program Manager. During the school year, Extended Day has both morning and afternoon programs. The Morning shift is 6:45-8:30am and the afternoon shift is 2:00-6:15pm, Monday through Friday. A combination of these shifts is available and should be discussed with the Extended Day Program Manager. Additionally, the program is open for full days during most academic breaks and during the weeks of summer camp. Extended Day staff get first priority in working shifts during camps.
The main responsibility of Extended Day program staff is to provide highly engaging activities with students while maintaining a positive, safe, and engaging environment for children to play and learn. Lead Teachers create and implement highly engaging Extended Day activities that include educational objectives supporting literacy and numeracy. Extended Day teaching staff must uphold the values and goals of Epiphany School including positive performance in preparedness, attendance, and punctuality.
What you"ll do
Primary Lead Teacher Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of students through adequate supervisionLead the selection of projects/activities that are appropriate and adaptable for ages within assigned group with thought partnership and collaboration with Assistant Teachers and the Extended Day Program ManagerResponsible for arranging daily plans, communicating with team members, and creating support plans for studentsSet agendas for curriculum planning meetings and run teacher team meetingsResponsible for completing the necessary paperwork on time (i.e., incident reports, medical incidents, etc.)Provide leadership, positive energy and spirit for students and Assistant Teachers, constantly assessing group dynamicsEngage in collaborative problem-solving within the assigned team so students are best set up for a positive and successful experienceSpend available planning time by reviewing daily schedules, student support issues, and sharing updates with team before student supervision beginsMaintain open communication channel with parents, day teachers, and administratorsInclude educational objectives supporting literacy and numeracy within planned projects and activitiesResponsible for ensuring team is adhering to licensing requirements and federal, state, and local lawsSupport Extended Day Program Manager in end-of-day debrief meetings by running through any incidents, etc. and outlining communication plan with teachers and familiesTrain incoming staff in partnership with the Extended Day Manager on team processes and communication expectationsProvide support to other cohorts as necessary
Shared Responsibilities Across Extended Day Team
Help students develop organization, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skillsSet up and clean activities daily (complete end of day checklists)Prioritize safety and self-care issues (i.e., bathroom breaks, hydration, meals/snacks, etc.)Ensure students are set up for successful interactions with one another and with staffProactively communicate with team about any changes in daily schedules/plansActively engage with students during program hours, including assisting students with homework, supervising play time, and supporting creative projectsParticipate in collaborative problem-solving with the larger Extended Day team to ensure daily schedules run smoothly
Typical Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
A minimum of 3 years of experience working with and/or teaching children within the ages of 3 to 10 yearsAA Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Education or similar field a plus, but not requiredProven appreciation and love for teaching and engaging with childrenDeveloped skills in organization, lesson and activity planning and implementationExperienced with classroom management preferredSkilled in conflict resolution with an ability to pivot from schedules and priorities as needed and able to remain flexibleAbility to confidently make decisions required of a Lead Teacher and work within a dynamic environmentStrong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with staff, families, and the larger Epiphany School community in a professional and appropriate mannerMeet all Epiphany School health and safety training requirements (i.e., food handlers card, CPR/First Aid, etc.) which can be obtained during the onboarding process

Ability to obtain the following (the school will cover all associated costs to obtain) Background check including fingerprintingWA State Food Handlers Permit STARS 30-hour child-care basics training Proof of a negative TB test Proof of MMR immunization Bloodborne pathogens trainingCPR/First Aid certification
Compensation & Benefits
The starting hourly range is $29.00 - $35.50, depending on the years of full-time, paid, relevant experience. Part-time and/or seasonal work will be calculated and converted into full-time experience to determine the rate of pay.
As part of the onboarding process, successful candidates will meet with the HR Manager to review years of experience and confirm the hourly rate.
Due to the part-time nature of this position, this role is not eligible to receive the full benefits package, however, paid sick and safe time is accrued at a rate of 1 hours per every 40 hours worked and employees have the option to contribute to a 403(b) retirement plan.
