Job summary

EnCorps - STEM Teachers is seeking mission-driven STEM professionals to volunteer as teachers in under-resourced communities. This role involves teaching math or science for 2 hours a week across 10 weeks while supporting students' STEM education.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, have relevant industry experience, and not currently possess a California teaching credential. Join us in making a difference in students' lives and promoting equity in STEM education.

Overview

EnCorps is dedicated to bridging the STEM education gap by connecting the professional world with public school students in under-resourced communities. We leverage the expertise of experienced STEM professionals to cultivate a new generation of STEM-ready students and teachers. Founded in Los Angeles in 2007 by Sherry Lansing, EnCorps Inc. is committed to ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive in STEM education.

Programs
  • EnCorps STEM Teachers Program® — We recruit, vet, and train experienced STEM professionals (with an average of 10+ years in their careers) to become high school instructors, directly addressing the critical STEM teacher shortage.
  • EnCorps STEMx Tutors Program — We build foundational math skills and confidence in middle school students by pairing them with STEM professional and college student volunteers for one-on-one support.

Explore becoming a science, technology, engineering or math teacher in an under-resourced community. EnCorps supports STEM professionals ready to explore teaching in a STEM classroom. Please note that to qualify for the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, applicants must not currently have a California teaching credential in the core subject they intend to teach.

As an EnCorps Fellow you will
  • Volunteer guest teach for 2 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks in one of EnCorps’ partner schools
  • Receive planning and support from your Program Manager to navigate the teacher credentialing process
  • Receive a $150 travel stipend once your guest teaching is completed
  • Gain access to online learning resources, workshops and professional development
  • Join a community of like-minded STEM professionals who believe in educational equity
  • Make a tangible difference in a student’s life by giving them an equitable, high-quality STEM education
We Are Looking For Mission-driven STEM Professionals Who
  • Have STEM industry or education experience that you are eager to share with students
  • Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.50 or higher*
  • Do not currently have a teaching credential / license / certification in math or science in the state in which you are applying
  • Live in an area we serve within California Greater San Francisco Bay Area; Greater Los Angeles Area / North Orange County; Greater San Diego Area; Greater Riverside Area; Greater Sacramento Area
  • Are eligible to work in the United States (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)
  • May be currently enrolled in, or considering, a credentialing program (you are still eligible to apply)
  • Please note: If your degree is not in a STEM subject you will have to pass the CSET.
  • Looking for backgrounds in engineering (all disciplines), software development, IT, coding, product management, data science, statistics, mathematics, finance, banking, accounting, healthcare, biotech, scientific research, lab work, etc.
