Job summary

PG&E is seeking an Operations Data Analyst in Oakland/Dublin for a hybrid role. You will extract and analyze operations data, maintain data tools, and deliver concise, actionable analyses to leadership and clients.

Responsibilities include designing automated data routines, managing data extracts, and guiding junior staff while collaborating with Directors and cross-functional teams. Strong SQL, Excel, SAS, and UNIX skills desired.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Advanced project management skills to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with utility operations.
  • Advanced Excel/Access (formulas, graphing, VBA).
  • Advanced SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects.
  • UNIX shell programming (csh, awk, sed, vi).
  • Strong knowledge of SAS and programming languages such as Visual Basic, Perl, C.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and influence skills.

Position Summary

The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support, and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools and databases, ensuring that they are kept up to date using data from various PG&E systems. He/she develops, maintains, and enhances operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team(s). The Analyst identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.

  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manages data management projects from initial request to presentation of data results, ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on time.
  • DATA PROCESSING: Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and delivery, ensuring accurate data manipulation and cleansing.
  • DATA EXTRACTS AND FILE TRANSFERS: Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
  • DATA ANALYSIS: Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends, and profiles.
  • REPORTING: Develops and communicates clear, concise, and actionable data analyses for clients.

This position follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be onsite one day per week in Oakland and one day per week in Dublin. Remaining workdays may be worked remotely based on business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company, in good faith, believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, particular skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job can also include participation in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Bay Area Minimum: $126,000
  • Bay Area Mid-Point: $163,000
  • Bay Area Maximum: $200,000
  • &/OR
  • California Minimum: $116,000
  • California Mid-Point: $155,000
  • California Maximum: $184,000
Job Responsibilities
  • Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision on only the most complicated projects, from initial requests to presenting data results, ensuring the project is completed within budget and on time.
  • Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, processes data, analyzes data, writes clear and concise data findings, and tailors communications to specific audiences. Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery, ensuring accurate data manipulation and cleansing.
  • Manages very complex data extracts and list pulls, ensuring data accuracy. Manages data extraction and transfers the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
  • Analyzes data using advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends, and profiles.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes broad expertise in data processing and analysis and applies this knowledge to several different issues.
  • Provides new and innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes.
  • Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise, and actionable data analyses for clients.
  • Acts as team lead and provides direction to less experienced employees.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
