Job description

Outside Analytics has recently become a proud subsidiary of SMX, marking an exciting collaboration that enhances our collective capabilities to deliver cutting‑edge digital transformation solutions. We build, integrate, and operationally support our customers’ emerging space‑ground systems to include real‑time data processing frameworks, sensor data processing, and data visualization across all orbital regimes (LEO, MEO, HEO, and GEO).

We have an immediate opportunity for a highly skilled Algorithm Developer and State Estimation Engineer who is excited to apply their talents to our customers’ challenging needs and who will thrive in a collaborative environment. This position will generally support a combination of direct customer programs as well as internal research and development efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in signal processing, sensor data fusion, and filtering techniques. Experience with real‑time embedded systems, C++/Python implementations, and Department of War (DoW) projects is highly desirable.

Position is Hybrid – ~3 days a week onsite in Broomfield, CO (schedule may flex depending on customer needs). Infrequent travel to customer sites may be required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and implement guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for various remote sensing applications, including kinematic tracking and data fusion.
  • Design, develop, and implement state estimation algorithms including Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), and Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF).
  • Develop sensor fusion algorithms to integrate data from multiple sensors of varying phenomena and analyze observability, stability, and convergence properties of estimation algorithms.
  • Design and develop tools and simulations for data generation and algorithm development.
  • Participate in technical discovery to understand and translate customer desires and requirements.
  • Work closely with software and systems engineering teams using an Agile development process.
  • Work with senior systems engineers to discover requirements and shape program execution kickoff.
  • Leverage technical expertise to generate a Basis of Estimate (BOE) for a scope of work.
  • Create technical documentation and help refine how the organization communicates its technical capabilities to potential customers.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Must be able to obtain a US DoW Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience with relevant application design and development.
  • Strong understanding of estimation theory, including ABG Filter, Kalman filter, Madgwick filter, Bayesian estimation.
  • Strong understanding of 6 DoF concepts and frame transformations.
  • Expertise in sensor fusion and multi‑sensor integration techniques.
  • Ability to identify, research, and implement sensor data processing and tracking algorithms to meet customer needs.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills with development team members.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Interim DoW Secret clearance or higher is preferred.
  • Proficiency in C++ for algorithm implementation.
  • Experience with real‑time processing and embedded systems.
  • Experience with FPGA development and deployment.
  • General knowledge of Systems Engineering practices, Product Management, and Agile development methodologies.
