Job summary

Piggly Wiggly Midwest LLC is hiring a Yard Jockey for our 3rd shift in the United States (Wisconsin). You will move trailers, inspect and log temperatures, and support yard operations to meet gate time targets, with training provided and medical benefits eligible from day one.

Responsibilities include operating a jockey wagon, checking trailer conditions, and coordinating with the PDT to ensure safe, efficient yard moves and accurate yard management system entries.

Qualifications

  • CDL must be obtained within 90 days; cannot operate CDL-required equipment before licensure.
  • Experience maneuvering and backing trailers (up to 53') with a jockey wagon.
  • Must pass pre-employment medical and meet DOT physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a jockey wagon to move trailers around the yard as directed.
  • Check and log trailer temperatures and conditions.
  • Perform yard inspections and log inventory in yard management system.
  • Load/unload trailers and pallets per instructions.
  • Perform preventive vehicle checks and fueling as needed.
  • Complete duties to support warehouse gate times and customer service goals.

Position Overview

C&S Wholesale Grocers desires to create the most safe, efficient, and service forward fleet in the country. As a Yard Jockey, you will start your career with the company by working with a Professional Driver Trainer (PDT) who will provide coaching and insight on the C&S Way. Once you have successfully completed our new hire training program, you will be tasked with completing yard moves in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. Your work will directly influences the ability for warehouse operations to achieve gate times required to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Job Description
Eight (8) Major Responsibilities of the Position: % of Time Required

1. Pre-shift and post-shift inspections. 2%

2. Yard checks (all trailers, contents verification) 5%

3. Move empty and loaded trailers (set, verify trailer temperatures) 55%

4. Shuttle trailers (load pallets / repacks) to and from the WDC 7%

5. Load bales, recycled paper & electronics 10%

6. Load pallets 15%

7. Load and unload reclaim trailer 5%

Pay Rate $30.74/hour

Description
  • Drive a jockey wagon to move trailers, as directed, around the distribution center yardMoves will include, but are not limited to:Trailers placed and / or pulled from warehouse dock doorsTrailers repositioned to proper pads within the yardTrailers brought to and through the wash bay

  • Check and log temperature of trailer to ensure proper settings based on the product (use pre-programed settings where available)

  • Complete yard inventory (and enter into yard management system where applicable)

  • Clean, fuel, and inspect the vehicle you are driving and the trailers you are moving

  • Perform other job-related duties as assignedStack salvage from retail stores on pallets and unload salvage (location specific)Operate propane fueling equipment (location specific)

Skills
  • Specialized Knowledge : Ability to obtain CDL within 90 days of hire; individual would be unable to use any equipment requiring CDL until license is obtained.

  • Special Skills : Experience maneuvering and backing trailers (up to 53') with a jockey wagon.

  • Physical abilities: : Occasionally climb up to 4 ft. (Must have fall protection training and using proper fall protection equipment). Frequently reach (level: Waist/overhead, etc.). Frequently gripping, carrying, pivoting, pushing, lifting, pulling up to 60 Lbs. Frequently standing and walking on surface type (s): Carpet, tile, concrete. Continuously hearing, seeing and repetitive movement using both hands and feet. Ability to pass DOT Physical.

  • Other: : Compliance with all company policies and procedures. Ability to read, write and speak proficiently. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work in a variety of temperatures Drive, motivation, and passion for providing excellent customer service. Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same. Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check. Ability to present self in a courteous, polite and professional manner. Must be able to work to the end of shift to include necessary overtime in order to meet business needs. Must be willing to assist in other departments based upon business needs. High standard of integrity and reliability.
