Job description

Be among the first 25 applicants. Doral Centre Animal Hospital (DCAH) is a premiere emergency veterinary hospital serving the Miami area. Known for our commitment to exceptional care and state‑of‑the‑art facilities, we specialize in emergency medicine, critical care, and trauma management. As we continue to grow and transition into our new expanded facility, we are looking to add two highly skilled Veterinary Technicians—one for our daytime team and one for our overnight team. These positions are integral to maintaining the highest standards of care, ensuring that we are always prepared to provide the best possible treatment to pets in need.

About the Role

As a Veterinary Technician at DCAH, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional emergency care to our patients. You will work alongside a dynamic team of veterinarians, support staff, and technicians to deliver top‑tier care in both routine and critical situations. With our upcoming transition to a new facility, this is a great opportunity for a motivated, experienced technician to be part of an exciting growth phase. We are hiring for both daytime and overnight shifts to ensure 24/7 care. Please note: rotating weekends and holidays are required to meet the needs of the business and provide care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Emergency and Critical Care Support: Provide urgent care and stabilization to critically ill or injured pets. Assist with triage, monitoring vital signs, and administering life‑saving treatments.
  • Diagnostic Support: Perform diagnostic tests (e.g., radiographs, blood work, urinalysis) and interpret results to guide treatment plans. Assist with lab work, handling specimens, and communicating test results efficiently.
  • Patient Monitoring and Care: Continuously monitor patients during emergency situations, surgeries, and recovery. Administer fluids, medications, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring optimal patient comfort and safety.
  • Surgical Assistance: Assist in surgeries and anesthesia management, including intubation, anesthesia induction, and monitoring during procedures. Provide post‑operative care to ensure smooth recovery for patients.
  • IV Catheter Placement & Venipuncture: Perform venipuncture for blood draws and fluid therapy. Place intravenous catheters with precision for ongoing patient care.
  • Client Communication & Education: Serve as a liaison between veterinarians and pet owners, providing clear communication on treatment plans, prognosis, and aftercare instructions. Educate clients on preventative care and address any concerns.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff. Ensure smooth workflow in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and teamwork.
  • Record‑Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough medical records for all patients, documenting observations, treatments, and procedures in our electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Experience: Minimum of 2‑3 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical or emergency care setting is required. Experience handling high‑acuity cases and trauma care is highly valued.
  • Certification: CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) certification is preferred, but not required. We welcome candidates with equivalent hands‑on experience who are passionate about advancing their skills in veterinary medicine.
  • Anesthesia & Surgical Support: Solid experience in assisting with anesthesia induction, intubation, and monitoring during surgeries is essential. Ability to assist in emergency surgeries is a must.
  • Critical Care Competency: Experience with emergency procedures, including CPR, stabilization, and managing trauma patients, is highly desirable. Ability to remain calm under pressure and think quickly in critical situations.
  • Diagnostic Proficiency: Skilled in performing diagnostic procedures, including radiology, bloodwork, and laboratory testing. Strong attention to detail in interpreting and communicating results is critical.
  • Communication & Client Service: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain medical procedures and treatment plans in a clear, compassionate, and professional manner to pet owners.
  • Team‑Oriented: Ability to work well in a collaborative, team‑driven environment. Flexibility, adaptability, and support of the team wherever necessary.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting and moving patients, standing for long periods, and responding quickly to emergencies.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: Commensurate with experience, offering a rewarding compensation package. Experienced Veterinary Assistants can expect $20–25/hr, while a Certified Veterinary Technician can expect $20–30/hr pending experience.
