Job summary

Westover Vets in North Norfolk is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join our independent practice. You’ll be confident with routine consulting and surgery, enjoy teamwork, and have the curiosity to continue developing.

The role uses a four-day week (about 32 hours) with shared in-house OOH, generous CPD support, private healthcare, five weeks' holiday and professional fees paid, in a beautiful part of the world.

Job description

Come and work in beautiful North Norfolk! Westover Vets is a proudly independent practice that has been serving the local community for over a century. We have grown and changed a great deal in that time, and now have three sites across the region, including our central hospital.

Our aim is simple: to be the best primary care practice we can be. To do that, we have invested heavily in our people, our buildings and our equipment. We have just under thirty vets, with more than half of the team holding certificates or higher qualifications, and we run our own out-of-hours service from our hospital. This allows us to offer an excellent level of care to our clients and patients, while keeping a huge amount of interesting work in-house.

We have all the usual toys, as well as CT and laparoscopy, but the real strength of the practice is the team. We believe that vets are happiest, most fulfilled and most productive when they are supported to do the work they enjoy. Whether your interests are medicine, surgery, imaging, dentistry, emergency work, consulting, or something else entirely, we will do our best to help you develop in that direction.

We are now looking for an experienced vet to join the team. Ideally, you will be confident with routine consulting and surgery, enjoy working as part of a supportive team, and have the curiosity and enthusiasm to keep developing. That said, we are always open to exceptional people, and would consider a recent graduate if they were the right fit for the practice.

The role is based on a four-day week, but without the very long days that often come with that pattern. Our vets work an average of around 32 hours per week.

There is some participation in our in-house OOH rota, but this is shared across the whole veterinary team and is therefore infrequent. OOH is worked in blocks of three or four nights, with only a small number of blocks per vet each year. It is well supported, and it allows us to provide continuity of care for our own patients rather than outsourcing emergencies elsewhere.
