We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team and help us deliver exceptional veterinary services.

Position Overview

As a Veterinary Assistant at Fairfax Animal Hospital, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing top-notch care to animals. The ideal candidate will be experienced, compassionate, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist veterinarians with exams, surgeries, and various treatments
2. Prepare animals and equipment for surgical and medical procedures
3. Monitor and provide care for animals before, during, and after surgery
4. Take and record vital signs, weights, and animal history
5. Provide compassionate care and handling of animals
6. Educate pet owners on general animal care, medical procedures, and post-surgical care
7. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment
8. Stock supplies and ensure all necessary equipment is ready for use
9. Handle client communications and schedule appointments as needed

Requirements

1. Minimum of 3 years experience as a Veterinary Assistant
2. Ability to work closing shifts and Saturday hours
3. Knowledge of animal health and behavior, medical terminology, and general animal care
4. Ability to safely handle animals, including those with behavioral challenges
5. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to client service
6. Strong attention to detail, especially in medical and record-keeping
7. Certification in Veterinary Assisting is a plus, if applicable
