Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is hiring an Experienced RN for the 3200 PCU Progressive Care unit. This role requires delivering high-quality patient care on nights (7:00 p.m.

to 7:30 a.m.), with an expected 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio and involvement in the full care continuum from admission through discharge. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care while coordinating with an interdisciplinary team and communicating with patients and families to ensure optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN).
• Current state licensure in Ohio as an RN.
• BLS certification required; ACLS within first year of employment.
• CVVHD training and TNCC within one year of appointment.
• TCAR certification within 24 months of hire.
• One year of current stepdown or critical care RN experience in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a diverse patient population.
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Develop and update goals with patients and families in care plans.
• Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and advocate for patients.
• Administer treatments and medications and document care delivered.
• Participate in quality improvement and discharge planning discussions.

Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s new Level II Progressive Care Unit (PCU), provides personalized, high-quality care with a 1:3 RN to patient ratio. This unit cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, including those requiring non-invasive BiPAP, continuous pulse oximetry, insulin infusions, select cardiac or vasoactive drips, chronic tracheostomy ventilation, acute stroke care, spinal drains, transvenous pacemakers, and arterial monitoring. As an RN on this team, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care.

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.

• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.

• Develop and update goals and involve patients and families in developing plans of care.

• Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.

• Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.

• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.

• Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.

• Review and document progress and discharge goals with patients and families.

• Participate in and document patient care, discharge planning and case management conferences.

• Communicate information regarding patient plan of care, current outcomes and acuity at shift report.

• Communicate changes in patient condition and patient care/unit issues, ensure JCAHO Core Measures related to nursing care are achieved, incorporate patient safety goals and complete all paper and electronic records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)

• Current state licensure in Ohio as a Registered Nurse (RN)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within first year of employment

• Satisfactory completion of CVVHD training and a TNCC certification within one year of appointment

• TCAR certification upon or within 24 months of hire
• One year of current stepdown or critical care RN experience in a hospital setting

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
