Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital seeks an experienced RN for the Progressive Care Unit to deliver high-acuity inpatient care and support patient families through their care journey.

The role focuses on direct nursing, care coordination with the interdi sciplina ry team, and maintaining patient safety and quality measures while working nights (7:00pm–7:30am) with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire
• One year of current stepdown or critical care RN experience in a hospital setting

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Develop and update goals and involve patients and families in developing plans of care.
• Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.
• Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.
• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care, and participate in the quality improvement process.
• Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure, and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
• Review and document progress and discharge goals with patients and families.
• Participate in and document patient care, discharge planning and case management conferences.
• Communicate information regarding patient plan of care, current outcomes and acuity at shift report.

Akron General's Transitional Care Unit is converting to a Level II Progressive Care Unit, where caregivers will be able to provide a new, higher level of intermediate care to our patients. The patient population in this unit will consist of non-invasive BIPAP, continuous pulse ox monitoring, insulin and cardiac/vasoactive GTTs, chronic trach ventilators, acute stroke patients, subarachnoid spinal drains, transvenous pacers and arterial waveform monitoring. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed .

A caregiver in this position works night s from 7:00 P M - 7:30 A M with rotating weekend and holiday requirement.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire
• One year of current stepdown or critical care RN experience in a hospital setting

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
