Description

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20‑bed unit that is part of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This 36 hr/week position includes day/night rotations and weekend coverage. The PICU cares for complex pediatric medical and surgical patients with an interdisciplinary team approach. The position offers up to $25,000 in incentives to eligible candidates.

Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care in line with professional standards. Reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities
  • Education: Identify and address learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level of patients.
  • Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; revise plan of care with guidance; participate in interdisciplinary discussions; communicate relevant information for continuity of care.
  • Implementation: Provide care for complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; use organizational policies and procedures; prioritize care; consult resources for complex care issues and discharge planning.
  • Leadership: Assist in setting professional growth goals; achieve or renegotiate goals; participate in unit goals and performance improvement; use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback to co‑workers; promote a safe, clean, and secure environment.
  • Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; build relationships with families.
  • Planning: Collaborate with patients/families to prepare or update plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; recognize cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex problems.
  • Research: Read relevant journals; bring ideas to staff for practice applicability.

Education Requirements
  • Graduation from a professional nursing school.
  • Must be enrolled within four years of hire if hired after January 6, 2014, and must obtain a Bachelor’s in Nursing within seven years or a Master’s in Nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
  • One (1) year of nursing experience.
