Qualifications

Job description

Experienced Relay Protection and Controls Engineer - Remote

We’re seeking an experienced Relay Protection and Controls Engineer to join our team remotely. This role involves designing and procuring protective relaying equipment for substations, switchyards, and transmission lines, ensuring adherence to design and construction standards. The engineer will work closely with clients to deliver quality designs and provide field support during construction.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Identifying appropriate protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
  2. Selecting protection devices for substation equipment.
  3. Preparing scopes of work and cost estimates for substation projects.
  4. Ensuring compliance with customer standards for relay protection.
  5. Creating detailed drawing packages including wiring diagrams, schematics, and protection panels.
  6. Interfacing with clients and vendors.
  7. Performing load calculations and field support for substation projects.
  8. Mentoring new engineers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • At least 4 years of experience in electrical systems within the Utilities or Energy industry.
  • Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 88/998; familiarity with Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, or Bentley Substation is a plus.
  • PE Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, automation, relay settings, RTU configuration, and protection & controls engineering concepts is advantageous.
  • Experience in the electric utility or petro-chemical industries.
