Job Description

General Summary

This role is considered the minimum for all nurses at UMMC with more than 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in required skills and fully participate in unit governance. They will practice according to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter, independently providing and coordinating care within a clinical specialty, and serving as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team. The nurse demonstrates and models professional nursing practice, participates in strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness, and is accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Successful passing of probation; current mandatory classes/training completed.
• RN licensure in Maryland or eligibility through Compact agreements.
• Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
• Member of a professional organization.
• Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead others, such as charge nurse or preceptor roles, and work effectively in a team.
• Proficiency with computer systems managing patient information.
• Knowledge of growth, development, and assessment of patient-specific needs across the lifespan.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Patient Safety

• Ensure patient safety in job functions and participate in safety initiatives.
• Act to correct observed risks, report adverse events, near misses, and communicate risks to management.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $34.5 - $53.55 per hour
