Job Description

General Summary

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at UMMC with more than 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in the skills and knowledge required and will fully participate in unit governance. They will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. The nurse independently provides and coordinates care to patients within a clinical specialty, serving as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team. They demonstrate the full range of nursing practice in care and participate in developing strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness. They are accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes, to peers for group practice advancement, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligible due to Compact agreements.
• Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
• Member of a professional organization.
• Recent relevant clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead others, such as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource; effective as a team member.
• Ability to learn and use computer systems for managing patient information.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to assess data relevant to patient needs across the lifespan.
• Highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Ensure patient safety in job functions and participate in safety initiatives.
• Take action to correct observed risks.
• Report adverse events and near misses.
• Identify and communicate potential risks in processes, procedures, or devices.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $34.5 - $53.55
