Job Description

The ideal candidate will have over 1 year of pediatric or ER experience

General Summary

• This role is considered the minimum for all nurses at UMMC with more than 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in relevant skills and knowledge, fully participate in unit governance, and adhere to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. The nurse will independently provide and coordinate care within a clinical specialty, serve as an effective team member, demonstrate professional nursing practice, and be accountable for patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness. The nurse will also be responsible to peers for advancing practice and to the nurse manager for overall performance.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of probation with competent evaluation; current mandatory training completed.
• Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
• Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
• Membership in a professional organization.
• Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead, such as charge nurse or preceptor roles, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in computer systems for managing patient information.
• Knowledge of growth, development, and age-specific patient needs.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Patient Safety

• Ensure safety in job functions and participate in safety initiatives.
• Act to correct safety risks and report adverse events or near misses.
• Identify risks in processes or devices and communicate to management.
