Job summary

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is seeking an Experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join our Food & Beverage group. This full-time position supports multiple office locations including Madison or West Allis, WI.

Responsibilities include site surveys, calculating refrigeration requirements for process cooling and building loads, and developing project documentation such as P&IDs and equipment schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university and at least six years of relevant experience.
  • PE license is strongly preferred.

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is experiencing unprecedented growth. As a result, we have a full‑time position available for an Experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join our Food & Beverage group. This opportunity would be available at one of the following office locations: St. Louis, MO; Denver, CO; Bloomington, MN; Madison or West Allis, WI.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting job‑site surveys
  • Calculating refrigeration requirements for process cooling and building loads
  • Assisting in the development of project documentation including drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), equipment schedules, details, specifications, and scope of work
  • Selecting and applying system equipment to new and existing systems
  • Coordinating technical specifications, delivery requirements, and quotation parameters with outside equipment suppliers, subcontractors and clients

A valid driver’s license and some travel (≈20‑30%) will be required.

Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university and at least six years of relevant experience
  • PE license is strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration design
  • Experience with food plant project design
  • Experience with chilled water/hydronic design
  • Experience developing P&IDs
  • Familiarity with managing project invoices
  • Experience working directly with clients including marketing to obtain future work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Experience mentoring less experienced staff
Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $150,000 – actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as experience, skill set, or location.
