Job summary

GSM Industrial in Lancaster, PA, is seeking an Experienced Project Designer to join our engineering and fabrication team. You will design and detail custom industrial projects involving structural steel, sheet metal, ductwork, pipe, and equipment layouts.

This role emphasizes hands-on problem solving, translating field measurements into accurate shop drawings, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and fabrication staff to meet timelines. Travel for site visits may be required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of mechanical/structural/fabrication design experience.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Tekla.
• Translate concepts from field measurements into accurate models and drawings.
• Solid understanding of industrial design principles and fabrication practices.
• Ability to travel for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D designs for industrial systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks and/or Tekla.
• Produce clear shop drawings, GA drawings, and fabrication details for structural steel, sheet metal, plate, ductwork, pipe/tubing and related components.
• Create accurate cut lists, material takeoffs, and requisition documents.
• Review, interpret, and refine engineering drawings to GSM Industrial standards.
• Conduct site visits and field measurements to support accurate design development.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication personnel to ensure design intent and timelines.
• Provide ongoing technical support to project stakeholders throughout fabrication and installation.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings to understand scope, materials, schedules, and customer requirements.
• Support continuous improvement of design procedures, standards, and drafting workflows.

GSM Industrial is seeking an Experienced Project Designer to join our engineering and fabrication team. This role is responsible for designing and detailing custom industrial projects involving structural steel, sheet metal, plate, industrial ductwork, pipe/tubing and equipment layouts.

The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical drafting and design capabilities, experience with 2D and 3D modeling, and a practical understanding of how designs translate into fabrication and installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits and field measurements to support accurate design development.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and fabrication personnel to ensure design intent, constructability, and adherence to project timelines.
• Provide ongoing technical support to project stakeholders throughout fabrication and installation phases.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings to understand scope, materials, schedules, and customer requirements.
• Support continuous improvement of design procedures, standards, and drafting workflows.

Requirements

3–5 years of relevant mechanical, structural, industrial or fabrication design experience.

• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Tekla.
• Working knowledge of sheet metal, plate, pipe/tubing, and structural steel fabrication methods.
• Ability to translate concepts, sketches, and field measurements into accurate models and complete drawing packages.
• Solid understanding of industrial design principles, dimensional tolerances, and fabrication practices.
• Strong mathematical ability.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; able to collaborate with internal teams and customers.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting project deadlines.
• Ability to travel for site visits as needed.
