Job Description

Bridge/Structural Engineer

Location: Worcester, MA

WSP is seeking a Bridge/Structural Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Worcester. The role focuses on delivering bridge and structural engineering solutions that meet client objectives and address transportation challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Perform professional bridge/structural engineering work including:
    • Development and drafting of plans and details using CAD software for project design documents.
    • Preparation of Bridge Load Rating Reports for in-service bridges.
    • Support field inspection and condition assessment of bridges, sign structures, culverts and retaining walls.
    • Preparation of quantity and cost estimates.
    • Preparation of structural analysis and design calculations.
    • Review drawings to assure compliance with design intent and specifications.
    • Assist more experienced engineers with broader engineering activities.
    • Preparation of technical studies, reports, and design document packages.
  • Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques and design requirements for safety and functionality.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on structural soundness.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • 3‑5 years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering design.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis, design, and rehabilitation practices.
  • Knowledge of design/build concepts.
  • Working knowledge of MassDOT, MBTA, and/or RIDOT requirements and standards.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization.
  • Ability to learn new techniques and work independently.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and technology.
  • Experience with discipline‑specific design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenBrim Modeler, etc.).
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with safety policies.
  • Comfortable with schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Relevant engineering experience through internships or projects.
  • Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Expected Salary (all locations): $82,800‑$118,400
