Job summary

The Phlebotomist obtains blood specimens from patients using appropriate blood collection equipment (needles, lancets, etc.) according to Laboratory Specimen Collection Manual and Phlebotomy Procedure Manual. Join the team that is the region’s leading lab service provider!A qualified candidate will provide phlebotomy services for one of the regions listed below on-site St. Luke’s labs. **REGION LOCATIONS,** Openings will vary by region availability**:*** **Central Region:** Bath, Bethlehem, Center Valley, Hellertown and Nazareth* **East Region:** Belvidere-NJ, Phillipsburg, NJ, Wind Gap, Easton, Stroudsburg, Brodheadsville, Pocono Summit and Smithfield* **North Region:** Albrightsville, Hazelton, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Mahanoy City, Nesquehoning, Palmerton, Pottsville and Tamaqua* **West Region:** Allentown, Fogelsville, Hamburg, Kutztown, Leesport, Macungie, Northampton, Pennsburg, Quakertown, Reading, Walnutport, Whitehall, Sellersville, Harleysville and Upper Perkiomen.**SHIFT DETAILS:**Apply now to talk to a recruiter about our current openings!Full time, 36 - 40 hours per weekPart time, less than 36 hours per weekHours: 6am-10am, 6am-12pm, 6am-2pm or 6am-6pmWeekday shifts with every third Saturday required (*Float -every fourth Saturday and every eighth Sunday)***JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*** Interprets verbal and written physician orders, obtains blood specimens from patients (all ages) using appropriate blood collection equipment (needles, lancets, etc.), handles and processes lab specimens, and follows safe practices according to the SLUHN policies/manuals* Perform outpatient EKG’s (as needed), operates centrifuge, and ensure proper specimen transfer and storage* Timely communications to the outpatient lab central scheduler, regional coordinators, and managers * Travel between sites, when needed, for unscheduled absences and/or emergencies* On an ongoing basis, review for understanding and comply with all Network and departmental policies and procedures**EDUCATION**:High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.**TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**:**Required:** Phlebotomy program completion certificate or documented competency through a recognized training program, including a minimum of 100 successful venipunctures, is required Basic computer skills, with the ability to accurately use Epic or other electronic health record systems, registration tools, kiosk workflows, and related laboratory applications. Strong customer service skills. Reliable transportation to arrive at work locations as scheduled.**Preferred:** One year of phlebotomy experience. Experience with outpatient laboratory workflows, patient service center operations, specimen collection, specimen handling, processing, registration, and patient identification practices preferred. Experience using Epic or another electronic health record, registration, or laboratory information system preferred.**PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS****:**This position requires the ability to perform physical and sensory activities commonly associated with Patient Service Center operations. Physical demands include continuous balancing, crouching, fine manipulation, gross manipulation, twisting, and walking; consistent standing; frequent reaching and sitting; occasional kneeling; and rare climbing, crawling, and use of foot or leg controls. Keyboarding and data entry are performed continuously in support of registration, EHR documentation, order entry, and related workflows. Lifting and carrying requirements include continuous lifting or carrying of 1 to 10 pounds, frequent lifting or carrying of 11 to 49 pounds, and rare lifting or carrying of 50 pounds or more. Pushing and pulling requirements include continuous pushing or pulling of 10 pounds or less, occasional pushing or pulling of 11 to 49 pounds, and rare pushing or pulling of 50 pounds or more. Sensory and communication demands include continuous hearing, vision, and verbal communication to accurately understand instructions, communicate with patients and team members, and support safe patient care. Vision requirements include near, far, peripheral, and color vision. Environmental and operational considerations include consistent operation of a car for travel to assigned location, with rare operation of other equipment as applicable.
