Job summary

The City of The Dalles Police Department is seeking a experienced Lateral Patrol Officer to join our team. You will uphold the department's mission, conduct patrols, respond to incidents, and prepare clear reports for court cases.

Qualified candidates have state-certified DPSST-equivalent training, current certification (or transfer eligibility), and at least one year of sworn law enforcement experience. Strong writing, communication, and integrity are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must complete state-certified academy equivalent to Oregon DPSST.
  • Current police officer certification or eligibility for certification transfer/reciprocity.
  • At least one year of full-time sworn law enforcement experience.
  • Ability to produce clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to testify in court with credibility.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold department mission, values, and directives with professional conduct.
  • Perform duties safely and effectively with sound judgment.
  • Maintain public trust through professional behavior both on and off duty.
  • Work independently for extended periods with minimal supervision.
  • Respond to calls, patrol, investigate, write reports, and testify in court.
  • Manage emergencies, protect people and property, and operate vehicles safely.
  • Prioritize tasks when not responding to calls and follow supervisory direction.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
