Job summary

JGM is hiring a Material Handler on a 2nd shift to move structural steel, load/unload with forklifts and cranes, and keep production flowing. You’ll tag and track materials, stage for machine operators, and perform safety inspections while supporting a fast-paced fabrication environment.

The role emphasizes physical work, outdoor conditions, and reliability on a 2nd shift with a strong safety mindset. Comprehensive benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• 2+ years forklift operation experience, preferably sit-down counterbalance or large-capacity lifts.
• Overhead or bridge crane experience with basic rigging knowledge.
• Background in steel service center, metal yard, fab shop, or related setting.
• Ability to transfer from warehouse to outdoors with equipment.
• Proven reliability on 2nd shift with minimal supervision.

Now Hiring: Experience Overhead Crane/Material Handler (Fabrication) Monday-Friday 5am-3:30pm, Sat (Optional)

What You’ll Do

• Move structural steel and materials across the yard and shop
• Load/unload trucks using forklifts, cranes, and equipment
• Organize, tag, and track materials for production
• Support machine operators by staging materials and keeping workflows moving
• Perform basic equipment checks and keep operations running smoothly
• Experience in warehouse, construction, or hands-on work
• Comfort with physical work (lifting, moving, working outdoors)
• Ability to work independently on 2nd shift while staying aligned with the team
• Strong awareness of production flow and how to support machine operators
• Safety-first mindset and strong work ethic
• Willingness to learn equipment and grow your skills

What you will bring.

• 2+ years of forklift operation, ideally sit-down counterbalance or large-capacity lifts handling long or heavy loads (beams, pipe, lumber, precast). A telehandler is a plus.
• Overhead or bridge crane experience, including basic rigging with slings, chokers, clamps, magnets, and spreader bars. Signal person or rigger certification (NCCCO or similar) is a bonus, not a requirement.
• Background in a steel service center, metal supply yard, fab shop, lumber yard, precast plant, or building supply yard. These are the closest matches.
• Transferable backgrounds that also work: warehouse, construction laborer, farm, landscaping, or any job running equipment outdoors.
• Loading and unloading flatbeds, including dunnage, load balance, and familiarity with straps, chains, and securement.
• Material tracking: reading tags, piece marks, and cut lists, using a tape measure accurately, keeping counts, and doing basic inventory or scanning.
• Staging material for machine operators or a production line, with an understanding of sequencing and what's needed next.
• Daily pre-shift equipment inspections on forklifts, cranes, and rigging, plus reporting defects instead of working around them.
• Physical work: lifting 50+ lbs regularly, being on their feet all shift, and working outdoors in all weather.
• A track record on 2nd shift or other independent shifts with less supervision, showing reliability and attendance.
• A clean safety record and the ability to describe specific safety habits, such as tag lines, keeping clear of suspended loads, and spotters.
