Job summary

Puffer-Sweiven in Freeport, TX is seeking a Mechanical Services Technician to assemble, repair, and fabricate parts for process equipment. You will operate metalworking machines and verify tolerances against blueprints and CAD drawings.

The role requires strong hands-on machining skills, the ability to read gauges and dimensions, and safe, efficient maintenance of tools and machines. Daily tasks include clean-up, preventative maintenance, and supporting warehouse and assembly teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 5 years of experience in machining or a related role.
• Must read and interpret job/machine-specific gauges and measurements.
• Must be able to read technical/CAD drawings.
• Ability to operate manual machines (lathes, drills, VTLs, boring mills).
• Familiarity with pallet jacks, forklift, and overhead crane.
• Strong organization and effective verbal/written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assembles, repairs and fabricates parts by operating mechanical equipment.
• Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units.
• Installs repaired parts into equipment and validates performance.
• Operates metalworking tools to manufacture parts per spec.
• Uses blueprints/CAD drawings to ensure dimensions and tolerances.
• Cuts raw material on a horizontal bandsaw when needed.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines.
• Maintains tools and secures work areas.
• Cleans, lubricates and maintains machines and equipment.
• Lock out/tag out equipment when not in use.
• Backs up assembly shop and warehouse operations as needed.
• Provides on-the-job training to new employees.
