Job summary

Peace of Mind Technologies, LLC (POM) is seeking a qualified Estimator to join our team in New York. The role involves creating accurate scope of work, estimating equipment and labor, and coordinating with sales engineers and the sales team to craft effective proposals.

You will review bid specs, conduct site walks, and contribute to timely RFP responses while aiming to maximize margins and ensure client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Must read construction drawings and perform take-offs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Visio, Outlook; CAD and D-Tools are a plus.
• 2-5 years technical experience with electronic security, IT and/or low voltage systems.

Responsibilities

• Gathers site details to create scope of work including equipment and labor estimates.
• Review and interpret project bid specifications.
• Conduct site walks with team.
• Provide accurate and timely project estimates/quotes to the sales team.
• Review and edit detailed scopes of work & product details in Sales Proposals; respond to RFPs; create RFIs.
• Review product estimates and system design with sales and other resources; negotiate quotes to improve margins.

Founded in 2002, POM has handled more than 2,000 site installations, primarily focused on large offices, retail, hospitality, health care, education, and real estate (commercial, luxury residential and hi‑rise).

Realize Client Objectives. The Estimator reviews the prospect's needs and wants for the product/services offered and works with the Senior Sales Engineer, System Engineers and the Sales team to develop the right solution.

• Gathers relevant site details in order to create the scope of work including equipment and labor estimate.
• Review and interpret project bid specifications.
• Conduct site-walks with team.

Support the Company Growth. The Estimator provides accurate and timely project estimates/quotes to the sales team that support the detailed scopes of work outlined in Sales Proposals, RFIs, RFPs etc.

• Review & edit detailed scopes of work & product details in Sales Proposals
• Respond to requests for proposals (RFPs)
• Create requests for information (RFIs)
• Review product estimate and system design with sales department and other key internal resources.

Increase Profit Margin. The Estimator levels vendor quotes and negotiates costs to increase profit margins, as well as identifies missing components in the scope of work to avoid additional project costs and reduced margins after the project is sold.

• Documenting equipment needed and labor time required for each project
• Gather information to determine proper system components from internal and vendor resources
• Build vendor relationships and negotiate quotes.

Exceed Client Expectations. The Estimator assists with the management of the quote calendar and prioritize accordingly to ensure that the sales team can meet RFP deadlines.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Disciplined work ethic
• Must know how to read construction drawings and do device take offs
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Experienced and proficient with Microsoft Excel, Visio, and Outlook.
• CAD and D-Tools experience a plus.
• College Degree
• 2-5 years technical experience with electronic security, IT and/or low voltage systems.
• Prior field based installation or project management experience is a plus.
