Position Summary: Looking for experienced line cook to work at Tobacco Road Sports Cafe in Durham, a made-from-scratch restaurant on the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and consistency of our food offerings. This role involves preparing, cooking, and plating various dishes, adhering to our established recipes and standards. The Line Cook works in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with fellow team members to deliver exceptional culinary experiences to our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Cooking:

Execute daily prep work, including chopping vegetables, preparing sauces, and marinating meats, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and ready for service.

Cook menu items in accordance with established recipes, using appropriate cooking techniques, temperatures, and presentation standards.

Monitor and maintain quality control, ensuring the taste, texture, and appearance of dishes meet the restaurant's high standards.

Station Organization and Cleanliness:

Set up and organize the station before and after service, ensuring all necessary ingredients, equipment, and utensils are readily available and in good working order.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, including regular cleaning of surfaces, equipment, and utensils to meet health and safety standards.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with the culinary team to coordinate timing and ensure smooth workflow during high-demand periods.

Communicate effectively with colleagues to relay important information, such as inventory needs, potential shortages, and menu changes.

Adherence to Food Safety and Hygiene Standards:

Follow all food safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the safe handling, storage, and preparation of food items.

Adhere to sanitation and hygiene practices, including proper handwashing, glove usage, and the prevention of cross-contamination.

Recipe Adherence and Innovation:

Follow the restaurant's recipes and cooking techniques to maintain consistent quality and taste of the food.

Collaborate with the culinary team to suggest improvements to existing recipes, experiment with new flavors, and contribute to menu development.

Efficiency and Time Management:

Work efficiently to meet established ticket times and maintain a steady flow of orders during peak hours.

Prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple orders simultaneously without compromising quality.

Adaptability and Flexibility:

Be prepared to work in various stations within the kitchen as needed, showcasing versatility and adaptability to changing roles and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience as a line cook in a high-volume, made-from-scratch restaurant is preferred.

Familiarity with kitchen equipment and cooking techniques.

Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation standards.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure under pressure.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a kitchen environment.
