Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery registered nurse to join our fast-paced, collaborative team. You will provide comprehensive care across labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum, monitor maternal and fetal status, and support vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.

We value evidence-based practice, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. A Missouri RN license, ADN/BSN, BLS, and recent L&D experience are required; Mercy offers strong benefits

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• Current RN License (Missouri or compact state).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Recent Labor & Delivery, Labor & Birth, Mother-Baby, Women's Services, or LDRP experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
• Assess, monitor, and respond to maternal and fetal conditions; communicate findings to providers.
• Support vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, inductions, and high-risk pregnancies; assist neonatal stabilization as needed.
• Coordinate care with physicians, midwives, and inter-disciplinary teams; participate in SBAR and handoffs.

Position Details:

What You’ll Do

As a Registered Nurse in our Labor & Birth team, you will:

Labor & Delivery Nursing Excellence

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care
• Assess, monitor, and respond to maternal and fetal conditions
• Interpret fetal monitoring and communicate findings to providers
• Support vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, inductions, and high-risk pregnancies
• Assist with neonatal stabilization and resuscitation when needed

Patient & Family Centered Care

• Partner with patients and families in decision-making
• Create individualized care plans that promote optimal outcomes
• Provide education and emotional support throughout the birth journey
• Advocate for patient rights, dignity, confidentiality, and safety

Team Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with physicians, midwives, neonatal clinicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Participate in bedside shift reports and patient handoffs utilizing safety tools such as SBAR
• Coordinate care seamlessly across departments

Professional Practice

• Utilize evidence-based nursing practice
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses as opportunities arise
• Maintain nursing competencies and professional certifications

We're Looking For

Required

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN)
• Current RN License (Missouri or compact state)

• Recent Labor & Delivery, Labor & Birth, Mother-Baby, Women's Services, or LDRP experience

Preferred Certifications

Experience or certification in any of the following is highly valued:

• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• ACLS
• C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification)
• S.T.A.B.L.E.
• PALS
• Additional Women's Services certifications
