What You'll Do in This Position


SRNS is seeking to hire Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineers with direct experience in design of process control instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) that includes production of drawings, calculations, specifications, ability to support construction, startup, ability to review vendor drawings and submittals, and provide support to various projects at SRS.

Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: P&IDs; Control Logics; Loop Diagrams; Instrument Indices; Setpoint Lists; Instrument and Control Valve Specifications; DCS and PLC Design; Instrument Location and Installation Design; Panel Layouts; Safety Requirements Specifications; SIL Determination/Verification; Uncertainty Calculations; and Vendor Document Review. Proficient using 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software. Proficient at performing field walk-downs to document as-installed conditions.

Demonstrate direct I&C design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry. Demonstrate design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and distributed control systems. Experience with 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) is required.

Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals. Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems. Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

This position may be eligible for varying levels of telework. Amount of telework, if any, will be determined by job scope, candidate location, and other factors related to the position.



Security Clearance Information


SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. Qualifications We Desire


Degrees/Disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the above disciplines.

Demonstrate I&C design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry.

Proficient using 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software, MicroStation is a plus.

Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.

Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques.

Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
