Job description

Gas Distribution Mechanic (A-Tech)

  • Prevailing wage varies between $70-$90 per hour (No Dues)
  • This position supports Dutchess, Rockland, and Orange Counties in New York State
  • Monday - Friday, 6:30 am – 2:30 pm with overtime available
  • Paid training, medical, dental, and vision insurance

Job Description: The A-Tech is responsible for performing intensive physical construction labor, including hand digging and using various tools around underground utilities for service and main work. This includes trenching, backfilling, and skilled technical work related to natural gas facilities installation, maintenance, and operation, under supervision of a gas foreman. Proficiency in safety, quality workmanship, and trustworthiness is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with construction and installation of natural gas mains and service lines
  • Maintain expertise in underground gas facility installation and repair
  • Operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, tampers, air compressors, and fusion equipment
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Follow safety protocols around natural gas and heavy equipment
  • Navigate construction standards and operational manuals
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Handle materials and use hand and power tools
  • Perform hand digging with shovels and digging bars
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Travel to various locations as needed within the service territory
  • Avoid cell phone use during work
  • Adhere to safety standards and procedures
  • Utilize Stop Work/Time Out responsibilities when necessary
  • Complete NGA A-Tech qualifications for each task

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of gas industry experience
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 1 year
  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles safely
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand movements; lift objects up to 50 pounds; work sitting or standing for long periods
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Act with integrity and respect property
  • Work in all weather conditions
