Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Field Fire Inspector in Louisville, KY to perform inspections and maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, and Suppression life-safety systems. The role requires working in the field with low-voltage knowledge, documenting activities, and maintaining an orderly inspection schedule.

You will issue Service Acknowledgements, perform minor repairs, and provide guidance to less senior inspectors.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 4 years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems and Fire and/or Life Safety Systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify issues and perform small repairs.
  • Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in unusual or difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.

Role Overview

As a Fire Inspector, you will perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, and Suppression life safety product lines. This field-based role requires strong low-voltage systems knowledge, accurate documentation, and the ability to keep a structured inspection schedule moving safely and on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, or Suppression life safety product lines, including similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.
  • Work with low-voltage wiring and associated devices used to operate low-voltage equipment.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using laptop computers and/or hard copy.
  • Follow a highly structured inspection schedule and complete assigned inspections on time.
  • Input, retrieve, and archive inspection documents via laptop or mobile device.
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
  • Provide technical guidance to less senior inspectors and trainees when needed.

How You Will Do It
  • Own each inspection with accountability, safety, and integrity, making sure the work is documented accurately and completed to standard.
  • Stay close to the system and the customer siteso you can identify issues quickly, keep work flowing, and remove obstacles that affect the schedule.
  • Use laptop and mobile tools to capture records, complete Service Acknowledgements, and archive documents efficiently.
  • Look for practical ways to improve every daythrough clear troubleshooting, thoughtful small repairs, and precise programming adjustments.
  • Work as one teamby sharing knowledge with senior inspectors, trainees, and other field partners to build trust and deliver complete inspections.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions carefully while maintaining safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
Qualifications

  • Ability to work in unusual or difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, and similar areas.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
  • Self-starter who can work with supervision and manage time effectively in a structured field environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
  • NICET Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Inspector Entrée Course (Electrical or Sprinkler).
Nice to Have
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, and operational or product manuals.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $15.00-30.00(Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
