Job summary

Midwest Alarm Services in Urbandale, IA is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Technician to install, service and maintain commercial life safety systems. The role is based in Urbandale/Des Moines with a company vehicle and cell phone provided. Wages vary by skill level and certifications.

You will test alarm panels, sirens, horns, and related devices, program systems, and handle paperwork daily while ensuring top-notch customer service and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Degree in Electronics or related training preferred.
• NICET II Certification required within 2 years of employment; ability to obtain licenses/certifications as needed.
• Must have valid driver’s license and pass background checks.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing:

• Service and repair specified electronic life safety systems and peripheral devices.
• Test and verify that all systems and devices (alarm panels, sirens, horns, strobes, etc.) function properly and in accordance to manufacturer's specifications and to ensure excellent customer service
• Use a multimeter for particular voltage and resistance readings and circuit analysis.
• Program or reprogram systems using programming software, computers, or programming tools
• Keep company vehicles clean and in good operating order (i.e. handle periodic oil changes, fueling, washing of vehicles, etc.)
• Complete proper paperwork and submit to the appropriate department on a daily basis.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by interacting with the Midwest Alarm Services internal/external customers (including, but not limited to: current customers, prospective customers, clients, vendors, co-workers, supervisors and management) in a mutually respectful manner regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation and all other protected classes
• As this position develops, the employee may be assigned additional duties or special projects as deemed necessary by management
• On-call as required
• May oversee other technicians as required

What you’ll need:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Degree in Electronics (or 1-3 year’s related experience/training preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must meet all proficiencies of a NICET Level II Technician
• Must have NICET II Certification within 2 years of employment
• Must be able to obtain specified license/certifications to perform work in the security industry according to the rules and regulations prescribed by the State in which the branch operates.
• Valid driver’s license and be able to pass pre-employment background checks.
• Must have ability to service Notifier, Simplex, EST or similar fire alarm systems.
• Must have ability to service Video Surveillance/CCTV systems.
• Must have ability to service Card Access systems.
• Must have ability to service Nurse Call Systems.
