About the Role
TorranceLearning is leading the design and development of a large, self‑paced e‑learning curriculum for a critical Federal agency initiative. We’re seeking several experienced e‑learning course developers to join a cross‑functional team of instructional designers, visual designers, and learning technology specialists.
This is a high‑volume, iterative build environment. You’ll primarily implement modules from build‑ready storyboards, while collaborating closely with instructional designers (ID) to ensure instructional intent translates cleanly within authoring tool constraints, templates, and mobile‑first/responsive delivery.
Note on tools: Development may occur in dominKnow Flow and/or another modern authoring platform (e.g., Articulate Rise). You must be comfortable learning new tools quickly and applying consistent build standards across tools.
Job Details
- Pay rate: $55–65/hour (1099)
- Weekly hours: ~15–35 hours depending on project phase and client response (hours are not guaranteed)
- Location: Remote; all work must be completed within the United States
- Collaboration hours: This project runs on Eastern Time business hours and requires daytime availability for real‑time collaboration
- Travel is not required; any client‑required travel would be paid.
- You must be able to secure Public Trust clearance prior to contract start.
How Delivery Works
Work is delivered in waves using LLAMA® iterations: Skeleton → Alpha → Beta → Final.
- Wave model: You’ll support Skeleton + Alpha design for one new module per wave, and lead Beta/Final development updates and reviews for prior modules. You can expect to work in parallel on several waves.
- Client reviews: Formal review cycles occur at key phases; feedback may come from multiple reviewer groups.
What You’ll Do
Build & Implementation (Core Output)
- Build responsive e‑learning modules from build‑ready storyboards (Word template) with high fidelity to instructional intent and established standards.
- Implement interactions, branching logic, states, assessment behavior, and completion rules appropriate to mobile‑first constraints.
- Incorporate approved content updates and revisions following internal reviews and client feedback cycles.
Accessibility (Section 508 / WCAG)
- Build modules to meet Section 508/WCAG 2.1 AA requirements and inclusive design expectations.
- Proactively check accessibility during development and assist with completing the project’s accessibility checklist.
- Partner with quality assurance (QA) and accessibility specialists to resolve defects efficiently and reduce late‑cycle rework.
xAPI / SCORM Packaging
- Implement xAPI tracking as specified, with support from the xAPI specialist team.
- Produce SCORM exports/packages as required for delivery.
Media & Visual Implementation
- Create simple media/graphics as needed (e.g., illustrations, icons, layouts), or pull from approved asset libraries, and follow established visual standards.
- Collaborate with visual designers (VD) for custom or complex assets.
- Ensure media is optimized for responsiveness, accessibility, and performance.
Collaboration, Reviews, and Quality
- Collaborate with ID to ensure proposed interactions are feasible and aligned to tool constraints and templates; proactively identify and resolve design‑to‑build translation issues early.
- Participate in QA reviews of your own and peers’ work; provide constructive feedback and follow standards consistently.
- Maintain clean build hygiene: versioning, naming conventions, and source organization in shared repositories.
Tools & Working Environment
Microsoft Teams, Slack (Collaboration); SharePoint (files and version control); spreadsheets and dominKnow review tool (reviews); e‑learning development platform: dominKnow Flow (primarily) or other modern authoring tools (e.g., Rise); ClickUp project management software.
